Each corner of the vehicle has three Proximity Warning Device or Parktronic sensors, designated as Inner, Centre and Outer.

Constant Warning - PTS

A constant beeping with constant red lights on the internal indicators means that the PTS sensors have failed, been damaged during parking or the associated electrical connector has issues.

Always check first that the relevant sensor is not contaminated with car polish etc or come loose in its mounting.

Fault Codes - PTS

Faulty sensors or connectors will often produce the following Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC) or Fault Codes which can be accessed via a STAR Diagnosis System or similar Code Readers. If a STAR is not available take your car to dealer or M-B specialist to run a diagnostic check. They will give you a list of what is wrong with your car.

  • B1245 PTS Parktronic: A42b5 (right centre sensor, front bumper) The plug connection has poor contact or is loose, or the sensor or cable is faulty
  • B1246 PTS Parktronic: A42b1 (left outer sensor, front bumper) The plug connection has poor contact or is loose, or the sensor or cable is faulty
  • B1247 PTS Parktronic: A42b2 (left centre sensor, front bumper) The plug connection has poor contact or is loose, or the sensor or cable is faulty
  • B1248 PTS Parktronic: A42b3 (left inner sensor, front bumper) The plug connection has poor contact or is loose, or the sensor or cable is faulty
  • B1249 PTS Parktronic: A42b4 (right inner sensor, front bumper) The plug connection has poor contact or is loose, or the sensor or cable is faulty
  • B1251 PTS Parktronic: A42b6 (right outer sensor, front bumper) The plug connection has poor contact or is loose, or the sensor or cable is faulty
  • B1252 PTS Parktronic: A42b7 (right outer sensor, rear bumper) The plug connection has poor contact or is loose, or the sensor or cable is faulty
  • B1253 PTS Parktronic: A42b8 (right inner sensor, rear bumper) The plug connection has poor contact or is loose, or the sensor or cable is faulty
  • B1254 PTS Parktronic: A42b9 (left inner sensor, rear bumper) The plug connection has poor contact or is loose, or the sensor or cable is faulty
  • B1255 PTS Parktronic: A42b10 (left outer sensor, rear bumper) The plug connection has poor contact or is loose, or the sensor or cable is faulty

DIY Repairs - Proximity Warning Device Parktronic System (PTS) Distance Sensor

The PTS sensors may be accessed by removing the bumper trim. Use a padded lever such as a table knife wrapped in tape to pries off the trim. Be careful not to damage the paint work.

Remove the relevant sensor/s by undoing the associated clips.

The PTS sensor cable can be removed by lifting the flap and gently pulling the connector.

The old PTS sensor can be removed from its holder and a new one inserted.

When reconnecting the cable to the sensor apply a liberal coating of silicon dielectric grease to the inside of the connector to help prevent water contamination and oxidation of the electrical terminals.
