Introduction

If you try to adjust the levels of a M-B using a STAR Diagnosis System (SDS) or Diagnosis Assistance System (DAS) you MUST NOT just go to "actuations" and then lower it or raise it as IT WILL NOT STAY ADJUSTED this way. You have to go to Initial startup mode in SDS.

Note this method was published by MB World Fanatic aleksandar1099 ([1]) and refers to a W211 but equally applies to W220 models.

Method

  1. Using SDS get to the 211 Section
  2. Select F3 to See Main groups
  3. Select Functions performed by more than one control unit
  4. Select F3 to see Function main groups and select Chassis / Chassis
  5. Select F3 to see Brake system and Select Level adjustment
  6. Select F3 to see List of all control modules and Select Suspension
  7. Select F3 to see Airmatic and Select Initial startup
  8. Select F3 to see Initial startup and Select Initial startup with manual settings input etc.
  9. Select F3 and Read the disclaimer, then select F2
  10. See Actuation of level valves and observe level sensor voltages. On this screen observe the voltages which correspond to the height of the vehicle. They must be within the given ranges in the left hand column. Note in the example the operator is in the car with a friend in the back seat, so that is why Rear axle level sensor is at 3.27V, it should not exceed 3.0V.
  11. Use the + and - buttons to lower or raise the car.
  12. Once you are happy with the new levels, select F2 to continue and see Entry of values stored in the inclination measuring instrument
  13. You should now measure the front and rear axle inclination angles using an angle measuring device.
  14. Enter in the inclination angles as measured or alternatively enter the angles shown in the example. (Note the example shows a W211. For a W220 typical angles are +3.5 degrees for the front and -1.9 degrees for the rear.) If the car is within the voltages specified in the page before, the car will accept the new level setting, if not it will reject it, and you will need to repeat t he procedure.

Summary for Printing

A. Open SDS B. Highlight W220, F3 C. See Main Groups, highlight Functions performed by more than one control unit, F3

D. See Function main groups, highlight Chassis / Chassis, F3

E. See Chassis / Chassis, highlight Brake System, F3

F. See Brake System, highlight Chassis level adjustment, F3

G. See List of all control modules, highlight Suspension, F3

H. See AIRmatic, highlight Control unit adaptations. F3

I. See Control unit adaptations, highlight Level calibration, F3

J. See Level calibration, read the disclaimer, then F2 in order to actuate the level valves

K. See Actuation of level valves and observe level sensor voltages eg; FL 2.61, Fr 2.43, Rear 2.53.

L. Use the + and - buttons to lower or raise the car.

M. Select F2 to continue

N. Enter in the inclination angles for a none USA W220 eg; LF 5.2, RF 5.2, LR -1.9, RR -1.9

O. If the level sensor voltages are within the allowed tolerances, the car will accept the new level setting, if not it will reject it.
