Downloadable WIS (07/2013) and EPC (01/2013)

Be Warned. You need to have considerable technical ability to make use of the following.

Once installed the STAR WIS (Workshop Information System) and EPC (Electronic Parts Catalog) software runs in a virtual WinXP environment via VMware Player which allows it to be used on just about any PC. It needs a data connection to access the on-line versions of the EPC and WIS.

BenzWorld Member, BestBalbes, prepared a VM with WIS (07/2013) and EPC (01/2013). The rar-archive file is 25Gb,and when expanded the Virtual Machine file is 40Gb.

Brief instructions. Use VMWare VM Player. OS loads desktop with auto-login.

STAR C3/Xentry on Windows 8, Windows 7 or Windows Vista

BenzWorld Member, junior_vw, has installed the STAR C3/Xentry software without the use of a Windows XP box. He used Windows 8 compatibility mode for Windows XP sp3, with elevated privileges.

The instructions are:

  • Step 1: Create a restore point.
  • Step 2: Plug in external Hard Drive.
  • Step 3: right click on VMware v5 installer click options, pick compatibility. Choose Windows XP (SP3).
  • Step 4: Install VMware v5.
  • Step 5: Right click on VMware v5 icon, set compatibility to Win XP SP3. Run as admin.
  • Step 6: Run Vmware v5.
  • Step 7: Pick Run Existing.
  • Step 8: Choose DAS from drive.
  • Step 9: Don’t upgrade VMware, but do install VMWare Tools.
  • Step 10: Enter Password from HDD.
  • Step 11: Enjoy.

However, if you need to run it on the Windows Vista or Windows 7 OS you will need to first disable the User Account Control (UAC) settings (Note try without doing this first as it compromises the pc security) and any anti-virus software you may be running.
